Snow blankets author during event. Today I participated in another book event near my home. I am content to stay close to the cabin during inclement weather. Driving in the wet snow is not fun--too much risk and it adds hours to the drive time of any journey.
>Fortunately, there are many visitors up for holiday shopping, but the books and display table don't do very well in the wet snow! Once it started to come down, we all managed to snuggle up in the cozy corner of the bookstore. They have the BEST coffee cart and a seating area that makes chatting with strangers a natural occurrence and many new acquaintances are formed weekly.
I've become a mini celebrity in town now. People cheer and yell their greetings when they see me chatting at events. Since book sales have been great, the locals ask about the book all the time and are thrilled to hear the good news. I think this is especially so since there are many regional stories.
This week I was finally invited to do an event at the Bodhi Tree in Los Angeles. For those of you not familiar with the store--it is a big deal! I am also booking events in the Ventura County area for April and plan to attend the ninth annual Festival of Books in Los Angeles. I hope to be a speaker or guest, but I'll be there even if that doesn't happen.
I am enjoying my weekend travel schedule. It gives me time to work on my projects and really makes me appreciate my home environment. I like the mental stimulation of my travels to different locations, but I really love living in a wilderness area and a small town environment. Less than 400 people live in my town!
Tonight I built a roaring fire and am watching the snow fall as the wind whistles through the trees. I'll have to shovel tomorrow and haul wood in on Tuesday, but this is my favorite time of year.
This week last year was when I signed the contract for my book that is out now (What Animals Can Teach Us about Spirituality). I am currently shopping two other projects. I'd certainly love to spend another winter writing in the warmth of my cabin! However, the book tour is keeping me busy!
