When most of southern California is under a foggy blanket, author Diana L. Guerrero enjoys the first signs of spring. Yesterday was beautiful and filled with fun, food, and friends. I took some time in between phones calls and office work to meet a reporter from The San Bernardino Sun newspaper. She interviewed me over a week ago and did a photo shoot for the full page piece that should appear in the near future.
The local Fawnskin bookclub, the Queen Bees (also known as the Killer Bees, Honey Bees, or Worker Bees depending on the mood of the group)showed up to support me. Book fans gathered to take the photo and each received one of the book buttons as a token of my appreciation. I swear that Queen Bee Dee will be president of the fan club since she loves the book and bends the ear of everyone she meets to tell them about it!
Speaking of bees, they are again out in force. The birds are singing and the bees are buzzing--my bulbs are peaking their heads out of the damp earth. They all have appeared before--only to get hit with several feet of snow. Now it looks like we might get rain, we hope so. Everything is still pretty dismal regarding the draught, lake level, and lack of moisture. I didn't do a garden last year, and it looks like we will have severe restrictions this year.
On the up side:
The nice weather means that I am again ambling outside. If I don't have animal clients, I tend to work too long at the comupter. I stopped by to see George and Gracie, two of our resident Bald Eagles, because they should be leaving soon and I didn't get to visit with them until this week.
Molly has turned into the angel dog...now that her owners don't fall for her manipulation tactics. She is so smart and makes me laugh. We cuddle before, during, and after training (a job perk). This week she learned boundary training--no dashing out the door, and we began reviewing the recall. She really sprouted and is about four times the size she was when I first met her.
Edelweiss Books, the store where we took the photo, has been a community icon for over thirty years and the new owner is celebrating her second year anniversary next week. She still holds the record of consistent book sales for my book. Every month she sells somewhere around two dozen. Carla Ogilvie and I have become better and better pals over time. Her daughter Cortney, who is six, will probably the president of my junior fan club!
My Bee buddies and I headed for some chow after the photo shoot. Then we ambled around the village for a short while. I coerced them into one of my favorite shops--unfortunately closing up. The Queens and I are all members of the local Moose Lodge and I wanted them to see the moose items available at the store. We do lots of community fundraising and some of the items will go well as prizes and fundraising items for upcoming events.
The day ended with tormenting a new student. Annie is about 16 weeks old. She is a very smart springer spaniel. She and her mother made great strides since they started last week. Annie is very smart and very bouncey--she isn't called a springer for nothing!
This week Annie missed her nap so she was pretty tired by the time we quit. Normally she is a great student, but when she is too tired and doesn't want to do something she turns away. Then just like a kid she will start to get hyper when too tired. We ended with some playtime and headed back to the vehicles. As soon as she had some water she made herself comfortable in her crate and was asleep in less than a minute! Wish I could do that!
