Animal book author and bird return home. Arriving home after five days on the road is always a pleasure. To say I am exhausted is an understatement. After returning some phone calls, I nestled under the blankets and listened to an audio book. I was too tired to want to do much else.
After teaching my cat behavior class, I spent the morning walking along the beach. I left San Diego and journeyed North West to Sierra Madre, a small town nestled against the foothills. Close to Pasadena, Arcadia and surrounding cities it was the perfect place to land before my event at the famous LA bookstore, The Bodhi Tree.
CE, my bird, got to lounge outside in her travel cage. This is not a normal event for this time a year since we live in the mountains where the winter weather makes it too cold for her to enjoy basking in the sun outside.
She chortled and chirped while everyone (as usual) admired her. I learned later, after returning from my event, that she was uncovered (I had secured her for the evening) so she could be admired by newfound pals. She is going to get a big head with everyone telling her how beautiful she is.
CE loves to travel. She likes the sights and the attention new people and animals give her. She snacks and talks to me softly during our drive on the freeway. The small travel cage fits in the front seat and is secured to ensure her safe journey. It is funny to reflect back and remember that she lived full time in that cage before I rescued her. Now she has the large birdie condo.
The crowd at the Bodhi Tree was an interesting mix. Sometimes there is one person set on going down a path others are not interested in. One late comer was hell-bent on it. As I watched the rest of the audience squirm, I attempted to honor his question while bringing the discussion back to where we were going. He did this a couple of times, and left early. Later I discovered he was always disrupting speakers. Claiming his name was "Beagle" I could see why.
The other challenge of the evening? I had a nose itch that would not go away.
One of my favorite authors, Robena June Schaerf (of Australia), surprized me by joining us. I hope to visit her when I visit Los Angeles again in late May. If you like women's fiction her titles are Morgan's Ridge and Grafton Manor. They are light enjoyable reads.
The bookstore cat did not choose to join us. However, upon my appearance outside in secluded parking area she ran up to me and demanded that I alert her people that she wanted in. Why is it that animals are always bossing me around?
