Residents return home after the firestorms It is nice to be home! I arrived back on Monday night. Snow flakes, fog, and sleet engulfed me on my way home. I lit a fire immediately (in the fireplace) and struggled with lighting the heaters--but finally achieved success.
When I left the area it was summer, now it is definately winter. My neighbors are not home yet, but yesterday many more residents arrived and flocked to the stores and banks. If you have never been through a disaster or an evacuation--the recovery period lasts a while. I suspect many people will be spinning for about a year. The area is like a ghost town.
However, the first eagle pair has arrived and life here is moving forward. We all have to order our wood now--funny isn't it? Ordering wood for heat when the forest was on fire and it looked like we would all lose our homes. The fire was stopped just over the ridge from where I live so I am thankful.
My bird, CE had a fabulous time and chortled and chattered during our evacuation, through our stay with firefighting friends, and all the way home. She thought it was a grand vacation--she travels with me often.
