Author and animal expert, Diana L. Guerrero shares her experiences with bird commentaries on an early morning walk. This morning I awoke too early again. Not even the birds were up! Attempts at dozing failed. Finally, I stumbled out of bed, tossed on some clothing and ambled outside.
Brrrrr.
I live in the mountains and the past few nights have required that I re-light my furnace. This morning was crisp and I had to wear a sweatshirt.
An avian symphony greeted my emergence--and that was about it. Most everyone else was sensibly tucked into warmer quarters. Not even the squirrels or rabbits were out yet.
Ambling down the lakeshore, I suddenly encountered a male starling. He was definately yelling at me. In my early morning stupor I decided that I was probably near a nest or trespassing on his turf.
Not so.
This guy followed me and took up the tyrade again! Next, he got some friends to join in. He followed me for over a half a mile!
When I turned around to return, wouldn't you know it--he did too.
Hmmm.
He finally decided I was too dense to get whatever message he was trying to convey and darted off across the shallows over to the next cove.
Maybe it is just my reminder to really listen...or just a noisy serenade to wake me up to be fully present.
