Dorothy's Memorial 10/9/2004 12:32:10 PM
I miss you already, Dor. The memorial service was on the 7th. I was unable to log on to post this before. Dorothy loved Elvis Presley, Lucy, and Coca Cola. Her son-in-law Jeff promised her he would play Elvis at her service. And he did. Two songs. I would have to say Dor's service was more upbeat than Jimmie's the month before. Yes, we still shed tears. Yes, we miss her more than words can ever say. But on the morning of her service, I realized that Dor's mother had died giving birth to her and she never got to know her mom. I realized that when she went on to join Jimmie, she no doubt got to meet her dear mother for the first time. Oh what a moment that must have been for her! And she won't have pain anymore or sorrow. She's in a better place. But I still can't help but miss the times we had when we were co-workers at the YMCA and YWCA. The times at the YWCA were twice as fun than at the YMCA. Something changed Dor when she began to work at the YMCA. I never figured it out. But I'll never forget the laughs we had. And I'll never forget the last phone call to me back in March. I had called, I believe, for her last birthday on March 30th. She mentioned my book to me. I can still hear her say, "I'm proud of you, Penni." That means a great deal to me. I'm proud of Dorothy. I'm proud to have known her and to have called her one of the best friends a woman could ever have. I love ya, Dor. I miss you. Have a ball in heaven dancing to Elvis tunes with Jimmie who now has both legs back again. Most of all enjoy your long overdue reunion with your mommy. You have a lot to catch up on.
