I just bought two greeting cards. It took me thirty minutes to find what I wanted and not because I am slow or picky. Try to find a belated birthday card these days! Even worse, look for Get Well cards! Birthday cards of every description fill the racks like fans at the Super Bowl. Of course there were sympathy, anniversary and wedding cards galore. So what is the big deal?
I guess in major drug stores, birthdays are the bling of the card world. Caring aboout sick people is banal and almost as passee as black and white television. If you miss a birtday, who cares? Start saving up to buy the card for next year!
At the back of the racks, I saw the super card, the one for people who turn 100. I wonder how many of those they sell. I wonder if folks who turn 100 ever receive any Get Well cards. Be sure to send the 100 card on time as there may be no chance for belated ones there. I hope I get one of those.
Cards get racier and racier, I even saw one that mocked Isaac Hayes. The Get Well card I purchased talks about how being sick is like a power sander being applied to your butt. Honest, it does! It took me so long to find it, I bought this off-color card anyway!
My two cards are ready to mail. Such cards are rare finds in this world of consumerism and all the other "isms". It is like hunting snipe just to find what you want.
