Book Sales in a Small Town 11/7/2008 4:48:56 AM
Taken from a message I wrote to another author... I have been fortunate with sales here. My husband works in a big office and they have ordered many books there. Family, my local writer's group,and friends account for many as well. In a small town, there are many small venues. In November, I will go to 2 Christmas bazaars, a bookclub and a booksigning. You may find some of those in your neck of the woods. We have no bookstore here but there are many high end gift shops. I got into two of those. Also everywhere I go, I take a book or two with me. My pharmacist bought one when I refilled. My OB-GYN bought one yesterday when I went for my annual check-up. In a place like that, take your book out and lay it on the counter when you get your wallet out. They will notice it and ask. Two small town papers and a little magazine have or will run features. Scheduled are two radio interviews. I guess you have to be Johnny on the spot nearly everywhere you go. Basically, I am really shy and reserved so it is not easy to talk my book up. I really like the internet and blog alot to show how I write and attract folks. You know, it may be small potatoes when it all adds up but you gain respect and kudos. I suppose if you are published by the big guns, you don't need to promote your book as I have done. Actually, I am having more fun than I have had in a long, long time.
