On Making a Book Trailer 9/21/2008 1:43:04 PM
Playing around with words. I don't have Tourette's Syndrome but I do have a thing about all labels facing forward. I have no idea when that got started but when I was a teenager, I always set the table with our animal dishes facing the right way. It stressed me to see an upside down cow or pig. My mother passed those M. A. Hadley dishes down to me. I still keep them upright at meals. Even my medicine cabinet has all labels up front. My food pantry is like soldiers standing at attention.
Maybe I am too particular about things. Now I am deep into promoting my book. Truth be told, I don't want it to be "smothered like a church fart." There, I said that expression again. It is so useful. So downright tacky but right on the money. I may be slightly obsessive but I am down to earth.
So today, I have spent hours making a video. Call it a book trailer if you wish. Call it a tremendous amount of work for a four minute spot! But it is sweet to give your work a heads up like this. I used some software I'd bought to copy DVDs only to find out later it was not what I'd figured. Now, it comes in handy as a hammer.
The book trailer is on my page here for ALL ROADS LEAD TO HAZARD. I also posted it elsewhere. The trick was timing the pictures to fit the song. I had a few more photos of coal mining and other mountain scenes that didn't make it into the cut as the song ran out.
What's next after making your first film? Right now it's cleaning up the kitchen after baking Lime-Macadamia Cookies. Half of my cookies are too soft; the other half burnt around the edges. The dog won't stop barking because the scanner is going crazy. Life here is nip and tuck. When my book is released soon, it will become crazier with the circus that accompanies a book release. My stories will be out in the open, not smothered like a church fart. Last time,; I promise!
