Another icon passes... We drank some Newman's Own coffee this morning. Almond Biscotti flavor,and I've had it a week or two. Paul Newman's coffee embodies great flavor. He embodies the American male. I think of him as James Dean with a mission, with a cause. He leaves behind a gracious wife, a cadre of quality movies and his charity line of foods.
My favorite stars today seem to fade quickly. That guy in The Notebook, I loved his style and wish I could see him in a great flick again. I loved Christian Bale early on; now I hope he can remain intact. They can all learn a lesson from Paul Newman. Maybe the times are such that the best actors burn out in no time flat. Maybe they ought to form a charity early on or a business like Jimmy Dean Sausage or George Jones dogfood.
Stars like George Clooney have this charisma. So does Denzel Washington. Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio can fill his shoes or already has. He does charity work on behalf of the environment. The constellation of stars may be brighter than I thought.
Paul is part of the Big Dipper. With guys like Gregory Peck, Marlon Brando, James Cagney, Henry Fonda and Jimmy Stewart... he lights it up. Up in paradise, the stage lights burn brightly I guess. Take a bow. Take another. You left a big part of you behind and you still sizzle.
