Holy Smoke!
11/3/2008 2:32:47 PM

Forest fires are at our doorstep!
Smoke is getting thick in these mountains. I haven't been able to breathe worth a flip for a few days. Today, just after I picked my husband up from work, I saw what looked like smoke signals coming from the hillside behind his office. He may get a day off tomorrow if this keeps up.

As we went down a steep curve, I saw the flames. They seemed innocent enough, even resembling a long string of Christmas lights. Nobody ever wants it to rain on election day. Here we would be thankful for even a thunderstorm.

Don't get me wrong. I want voters to come out in droves. Even a stampede of voters would be fine with me. This election will itself be a barn burner. I can't wait to vote! I can't wait for rain much longer either.

Maybe it will be easier to breathe tomorrow. Even more important, I want to utter a sigh of relief when the best man wins. I saw Michelle Obama give a speech in Nevada on MSNBC. She was awesome and sincere and everything I'd want a first lady to be.

The White House will be once again as it was with the Kennedys. Camelot? Maybe. Reality. I hope. I realize that the AD folks don't want political banter to flood their site. Just one more day to go. The smoke is getting thick. When it clears, who will be the last man standing? Even if our polling station is bathed in smoke, I will be there wheezing and waiting my turn.
