Trivia Night

It was Trivia Night at Greater Trumps, a game of know-it-all, of things inconsequential but consequential. The first question was, “What was Time magazine naming the People of the Year?” I don’t know what the answer was. Neither did Janice. My team was not present. Only Janice and I were team members. No hope but at least we played. Then came the question of what the revolution Vaclav Havel had. It was the Velvet Revolution. And then, who the entrepreneur of the TV shows was. The answer was Martha Stewart. We know that we were going to lose. The last question was who sang Feliz Navidad. The answer was Jose Feliciano.

There were about eight teams playing. When it was time to submit our paperwork, there were two gentlemen playing near us with whom we joined with. I compared our answer with theirs. Their answer to Martha Stewart was Oprah. I said that it seemed plausible, so we went with it. And of course, we had the last question wrong.

Total answer we got was thirteen out of twenty-five questions. Not much to crow about. My team last week got twenty-two while the next one got twelve. So we expected to lose. When the winner was announced, number two got eleven. The gentleman to my right and I saw each other eye to eye. So we were surprised that we got thirteen. Whew and Wow! So we won the Trivia Night.

It was a complete surprise that we won. We won with that low score. Had Leslie and Dana been here, we would be wiped out. But no fear. I reiterated the fact that we got a low score, to Janice. But Janice said, “So what?” We won and that was all that mattered.
