Jabberwocky 1/10/2012 9:30:40 PM
As I told Mike, the Portland Airport manager, that I am to write a blog about literature, I mentioned the poem Jabberwocky. I said that it was my favorite poem. He said that there was a show tonight about it and if I have seen it. I acclaimed that I hadn’t. He said that it was shown and it was film by the guys who did Monty Python. So, instead of going on about my blog about literature, I recited the poem, Jabberwocky, instead. And it somehow goes like this.
‘Twas Brillig and the slighty toves
Did gyre and gimbled in the wabe;
All mimsy were the Borogoves
And the mome rath outgrabe.
Beware the Jobberwock, my son
The clause that snatch
The jaws that bite.
Beware the Tum Tum bird and shun,
The Frumious Bandersnatch.
And then, Mike goes into a diatribe about Bandersnatch. There was one in Phoenix, Arizona. It had an outdoor volleyball court but it was a bar. You buy your beer and play volleyball at the same time. Sonia said that there was one in Portland. And I said that I will never go to that place because Greater Trumps was the bar I always go to and hang out. And she replied that I again talked about me. This was about her, this time. Mike said that, yeah, it was always about you, Paul.
Phoenix was always sunny; except during the night. And I mentioned that the night always have thunder and lightning. Mike said that that was during August. Yeah, August. I remembered when I was employed at Grand Canyon University and the yearly conference was held in Phoenix. During the night, I went out to have a cigar by the patio in a Westin Resort. I saw thunder and lightning going across the horizon. Phoenix was flat and you could see the clouds with the thunder and lightning coming across it. It rained. Faint chance but it did. But it was momentarily. Then after that brief storm, everyone was out in the patio again. Fire bloomed in the fire basket while I lay myself in the patio bench. And there I was, enjoying the evening smoking my cigar.
Oh, I digress.
