Odd that I should read this today, the fifth anniversary of my beloved godson's death. Thank you for it. In some way, it has made this day more bearable. It never gets easier, just ... different.

Write on and blessed be.

You place tribute upon our most heroic men and women Gene, though we are saddened by their loss and the unfortunate emotions they leave upon us, it is a great Honor to have them strive for freedom...

nice work..

"out of strength, sweetness" - this is the motto, I think, of a famous golden syrup brand whose ancient logo is a hive of bees working in the belly of a "fallen" lion. Sorry, this is a bit obtuse, but I'm fumbling for the rich, syrupy feel this elegant tercet gives me, like an anointing of oil somehow. This is so scent-sual/sensual, appealing to mind and emotions; visual and stirring. Have to agree about the weightiness, the glory inherent of those "dropped a-s" in the final line. Superbly crafted, but somehow intuited writing, too, I think. Very inspired and inspirational. Beautiful, Gene! xx

Wow! These few words immediately immersed me into the scene as I lay staring up at the blue sky along side the soldier. I felt the earth move and the breeze on my cheek while he felt nothing at all. Thank you Gene for this emotive words. Hugs, J'nia

I can see his sun bleached bones as the seasons pass. Vivid ironic snapshot of death amidst nature's beauty--the flag speaks volumes since it is the symbol used to stir up patriotism sending men off to fight wars both necessary and not.
