Saved from drowning
8/8/2006 12:57:36 AM

finishing or jumping in in the middle of why bill's my hero
I know, yesterday I told you that Bill saved my life then I just left you hanging. LOL. It wasn't totally intentional but if you could tell the time of this blog you would know it's just a little after 3a.m., the time I write which is why I find I can blog early in the morning. Of course then I have to stop and work. I never knew I would have to work ten times harder once I'd accomplished my goal and my dream was fulllfilled but oh well, I guess that's life.

Okay, I hear you telling me to stop yammering and tell about Bill saving my life. But rememer I'm a writer and we tell a lot of nothing to get to the point. LOL

Several years ago Bill, Billy and I went on a cruise. I'm not a very good or powerful swimmer and had taken swimming lessons with a bunch of twelve year old boys in order to get over my fear of water. (I almost drowned as a child when a cousin was trying to teach me to swim. But that's another story.

Anyway, I know my limitations. One day the boat docked and some of the passengers, my husband and son included went snorkeling. And a very large group of I assume non-swimmerrs or those with limitations made a chain and jumped up in the water when the waves came in. When one person or a dozen were knocked down others would pick them up. It was a lot of fun and I didn't miss Bill or Billy one little bit. Fast forward to a few days later.

The cruise is over and we're spending a few days at Coco Beach Florida. Bill and Billy walk out into the water about chest high and they'er standing there. I decide to wade out and stand behind them only I'm about knee high. I'm 5'1 to give you a visual. I wasn't in deep water.

The waves started coming and I'm remembering all the fun I'd had with the group from the cruise so I do the same thing I had done then, I jump up only thing when I came doown there was no bottom. OH OH!! I thought okay just swim toward land which was right, there so close that I should have been able to walk out. No such luck. Now add the waves are coming faster and faster and I'm panicking because I don't have all the other people around to help me get back up and I'm still not touching bottom no matter what I try.

Then I get a really brilliant idea (not) I decide okay you are good at floating and it doesn't take as much strength, just turn over and float. Wave after wave is hitting me in the face. Now its time to paanic, I flip back over and try swimming, screaming to the top of my lungs Bill. I'm screaming, HELP, waving my arms and no help is coming. I'm a virgo so it's my nature to analyze every situation even in the face of death I guess. So I'm trying to think what to do and thinking okay your life isn't flahing before your eyes but you're going to die if you don't get some help.

I started chanting, Bill said you can swim, Bill said you can swim, Bill said you can swim and i'm praying and in between the waves that are picking up even more. I'm still screaming to Bill to help me. Remember now they're still (I guess) directly in front of me still in chest (for them) deep water and the darn beach is right there. I'm practically on land and I'm drownig.

Finally I realize Bill is not coming, I can't believe it. I figure he didn't hear me. I start screaming for the people on the beach to help me. I can see their faces. They look at me as though I'm a nut and I'm dying, no one's helping me. In between the waves I continue chanting, Bill said you can swim. And I keep trying only I'm not touching bottom.

God I'm going to die, I think knowing I don't want to, I'm way too young and there are too many things I want to do (like live) Then I see Bill's beautiful face and he's got his arms around me and I know I'm not going to die. So I change my chant. Bill said never panic and pull the rescuer down, Bill said never panic....

You might be laughing but I swera I'm not making this up. I actually was chanting that Bill said I could swim and that he'd told me if I ever had to be rescued to not panic and take the person down in the water with me. Remember I'm a virgo under the worst circumstanace I analyze so I figured while chanting Bill said you can swim that if Bill said it then he had to know and I wasn't going to take him down under with me I wanted out of that water.

Needless to say he saved me or I would not be sitting here writng this so early in the morning. LOL

You probably want tot know what happened right? WEll yes, Bill and Billy heard me screaming and were watching me thrasing about. They thought I was playing. How could I be drowning in shallow water? They are way out in front of me and the water is only up to their chest.

So my hero tells our son finally when I'm fearing death is immenient. "Billy, let me go back there and see what your mtoher wants." So he begans walking toward me, walking, can you imagaine a hero walking to safe his lady who is screaming frantically? Well that's exactly what my hero did. And guess what? While he's walking into this shallow water he suddenly drops and realizes Dyanne's in trouble. Once he gets me out of the water he goes back for our son who wasn't in trouble but Bill wanted him out of the water anyway.

once I was safe and sound Bill told the story this way, that when he dropped down he thought, oh oh I'd better grab a shovel, Dyanne's in deep sh--

I've forgiven him for taking too long to save me because in the end he did and being alive you're able to forgive. so yes, folks Bill Davis is my hero. LOL
