Making the hard decisions 10/24/2010 1:54:53 AM
Good morning,
I supposed many of you have been at the same door that I was recently at. You want something so badly that you translate it into a need. I'm not going to be mysterious this morning, just a bit of plain talk.
For writers it's always about contracts. We are always wanting another one and hopefully a better one. We want this so much that you will often hear writing referring to this particular want as a need. We need a contract. We need a book deal. We need to let our readers know that we're alive and well so they won't forget we exist.
I'm setting up what it's like for the majority of writers that I know. I'm not any different. Recently because of my want/need I did something I swore I would not do. but there you have it I'm a writer and needed a book deal. After agonizing over making a submission I did and guess what?
I was given what I wanted. (notice I dropped need) I had a book deal. It's been awhile since I had a new book by my Dyanne Davis persona instead of my F.D. Davis name so I was cautiously happy. Afterall I had initiated things.
Then, the contract arrived in the mail. Little things that taken individually you might just overlook because your desire is fulfilled. I'm human I really wanted the deal, I wanted to over look ALL of the flaws.
If only my brain didn't work, but it does. I realized that to sign ANY contract my spirit (yes my spirit) found objectionable would be an act of desperation. Part of me felt desperate enough to do something that intellectually I knew would be bad for me.
Spirit won out over flesh. I didn't sign the contract but instead sent a letter and the contract back. Flesh is still working through that decision and Spirit hasn't put in much of an appearance since I put the contract back into the mail. Either way it's done.
I suppose in a way I could look at this as seeing what I'm truly made of. But guess what? I still want/need a new book deal. LOL
In the meantime I guess I'd better get busy promoting my book that was just released on OCt 17th. To Live Again. It's an F.D. Davis book but a very different and interesting story. Would it mean anything if I tell you that Sidney (my editor) loves the book and so do I. Probably not. I do have an excerpt listed here though so give it a read.
