Jury Duty 8/11/2006 2:49:59 AM
Monday I have to go for jury duty. Of course I'm split about it. I'm going to be politically correct and agree that it's our civic duty and all that. But I'm also going to tell the truth and say I really don't want to go.
I'm going to list my reasons and if anyone can come up with some really good reasons to get me excited about going besides it being my civic duty and I'll probbly end up putting the experience in a book in the future, go ahead and tell me. I guess I'll get that one good reason out of the way first. Of course I'm going to find a way to use it in a book. that's a given.
Now my reasons for not wanting to go.
1. I'm a creature of habit. I love my routine and going is taking me from my daily life.
2. I hate driving. I hate driving in the rush hour traffic even more.
3. Gas is $3.30 a gallon.
4. I have this horrible feeling that I'm going to be picked to be on some long trial.
5. I keep thiking how the public went after the jury in the George Ryan trial after they'd spent almost nine months of their lives there.
6. I keep thinking it's Bill who should be going since he's the one that insisted that I couldn't keep throwing away the papers and took it upon himself to fill the papers out and send them in. His reasoning: I was going to jail if I didn't fill the papers out. My reasoning: No one could prove I'd received the papers, everything gets lost in the mail.
Now I have to digress with my reasons here and tell you that he filled those papers out quicker than he came to rescue me when I was screaming for help. (LOL) And you know what happened next. Two weeks later they sent me parking passes and a date. I accidentally forgot to go. (For real) This was at the end of May. When they again sent me my notice, Bill didn't have to tell me I would get in trouble if I didn't go. I knew it. So I told him that Monday he has to take me so I can see where it's at. He comes back with, isn't it the courthouse where we kept going for you to do your research for The Color of Trouble? (LOL)
I've been his wife for a long time. So I go yes, but you know I don't remember how to get there. I need you to take me and pick me up. We all know it's his punishment for my having to go in the first place.
You don't have to fuss at me that I'm being unpatriotic. I already know that. But you could give me some funny stories to help make this fun for me. Who knows I might just use your stories in a book and give you a mention in the acknowledgement section. Hey, even if you make them up, I don't care. Just make me laugh.
Take care everyone and have a wonderuful, cool, and non rainy day.
