Introducing myself 8/9/2006 1:44:17 AM
All about me.
Good morning. Naturally this post will not be all about me or it would be pretty boring. But I will share the last year of my life with you today.
This past year has brought many deaths and many tough decisions. My mother's last two sisters passed just months apart and in Jan. my brother-in-law and father-in-law died a week apart and had a double funeral.
With the emotional toil of all the deaths coupled with writing responsibilities it felt as if I was being run ragged and had become less a person and more of a machine. Thank God for Bill and Billy.
Writing for two publishers is not the easiest thing I've taken on. I have been doing back to back edits with first one then the other that the joy of writing and creating was becoming lost. I meant it when I said there is a lot of work involved with gettng your dream.
Before getting published I had a rich full life that included writing but I was a lot more in control. I could just up and go to lunches with my friends which I did often and can't do as often anymore.
My daytime life changed four years ago when my husband retired. I could go out with my friends more often before he retired because about eight or nine years ago(I forget ) he told me to stop working and concentrate on my writing which I took to also mean going out for lunches with my friend. LOL
Anyway, with him home I'm not going to leave him home alone all the time while I run the street with girlfriends. I don't play that. I didn't get married to spend my time with women, friends or not, but to spend my time with Bill. We're a couple, we're a team. We enjoy each other 's company, we like spending time together. WE LIKE EACH OTHER!! I'm not going to apologize for that. I'm going to skip around for a second and tell you what has always been my favorite way to spend the week-end.
Bill, Billy and I would take the phone off the hook for the entire week-end eat, laugh wathc movies, eat and laugh some more. My mother used to get at us all the time for taking the phone off the hook for so long. She even went so far as to send a cousin over knowing there was nothing wrong. LOL.
My sister and nieces decided a few months ago that they wanted me in this century and they decided to lo-jack me by giving me a cell phone and paying the bill. Mind you I already had one that we kept in the car for emergencies, not just to talk and Billy had one in his car. Not good enough. Stil when Bill and i want to be alone we still take the phone off the hook and turn off the cell. We need that just us time and we need to shut the world out for a time each week.
I'm telling you all of this because the stress of trying to keep so many people (friends)happy and to show my writing career wasn't changing me was helping to cause some of the stress especially in light of the deaths. I took stock of this a while back and realized that things didn't start changing when I became published, they started changing when Bill retired and was home with me everyday. Now I do understand about girls times and if they don't want to have men at lunch that's all well and good. But when I'm trying to decide how to spend my time, Bill wins hands down no question. Yes, I still go to occassional lunches and most of those Bill is included.
Bare with me I'll get to the point of this post soon, I promise. I'm just writing what's coming up. With so many things going on writing was becoming so much a job that I had to say no to lots of things that I wanted to do. There was always another deadline and before I could finish with that one another one would come. I know no one told me to write for two publishers. I'm just saying it's been a really stressful time. Doing edits for the past six months is stressful in itself, it's fine tuning, not creating. i ws doing so much fine tuning and none of the creating that I was beginning to thik I hated writing and didn't want to do it anymore. I didn't hate writng, I hated not having the time to write.
In a way doing this blog is a release valve. I'm a very private person and doing a blog discussing real feelings and telling you about my family isn't Me. But guess what I'm enjoying starting my day this way.
If you haven't guessed, some of my stress has been taken from my shoulders. I have one more book that is written and has to be edited for genesis press. Also my editor whom I have this incredible bond with is going to be editing my books for Parker( I hope I can say this) Knowing that has lightened my spirit so much you just wouldn't believe it. At the moment I don't have any deadlines but I know this won't last longer than a month. But I plan to try and enjoy it, get in a lunch with my friends and to come here and chat. I have recharged my creative battery so to speak. I've already written three short stories for Amazon to tie into my upcoming books. Lisa G Riley, a wonderful writer and friend of mine is reading them over before I send them off to be posted. I have to tell you creating again felt so good.
