A letter from a reader
Sometimes we go along writing pouring out our hearts and souls with very little feedback that shows what we said made a difference in the grand scheme of things.
But if were lucky (I call it blessed;-) we touch someone who lets us know we have had an impact on their lives.
I received a letter(snailmail) from a reader that gave me enough inspiration and encouragement to keep me writing with renewed verve!
Close to my heart is the hope that others will see that our Creator is all good and all love and if we trust and believe in Him our lives will improve. One of the people who gets this point across so well is Dr Wayne Dyer. I knew this from the first time I heard him say "If you change the way you look at things, the way you look at things will change." A simple quote that can make a great difference in the way you look at things.;-)
Our attitude and how we choose whether to train it or not is what makes the difference between contentment and restlessness. Those who are most content usually have worked at changing the way they see things adopting the "attitude of gratitude" instead of whining about how bad everything is.
A lot of my poetry and other writings are about this topic. How we perceive things is usually the way we act them out. When we have a negative attitude, everything we perceive is tainted by that negativity and that effects the way we behave. The same is true with a positive attitude. We can see why it makes a huge difference to work at adopting a positive attitude.
The letter was from a father who has been reading me for a few years. He is raising a son on his own having lost his wife to Cancer. He told me he started to apply some of the positive methods I write about to his own lifestyle. But also teaching it to his son.
His son is now a teen, and has had a very difficult time adjusting after the death of his mother. The father said they both were struggling he wasn't too successful in trying to undersand his sons problems, being too caught up in his own grief, having loved his wife dearly.
He began to use some of the methods I had written about in many of my inspirational pieces. One in particular was a three part poem called "The Beat Goes On" Which I wrote in 2002. He said one line at the end of it really made him think. That line is:
"Remember,Earth is only the title page,the journey is the rest of the book!"
He and his son have finally after a long struggle,bonded and become good friends. They even go to church together, something he never thought could happen.
However minute a part my words may have played in their lives, just the thought that someone can read my work and it can have an impact to change for the better
has humbled and honored me. I share this so others may be encouraged too. Yes we can make a difference.
