Weddings bring together families, and sometimes, they also bring back memories.
When my friend's youngest daughter was married, we attended a garden wedding so lovingly arranged it was almost a dream.
The family was closely knit and the wedding guest list was a full of long time friends, playmates and classmates of both bride and groom.
The parents of the bride chose a song, "Sunrise, Sunset" as one of the wedding songs for dance after the ceremony, and it brought tears to our eyes as the lyrics were sung.
"Is this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play,
I don't remember growing older,
When did they?
When did she grow to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?
Wasn't it yesterday
When they were small?
Sunrise, sunset,
Sunrise, sunset,
Swiftly fly the days..."
The parents and friends were neighbors for years and watched the children grow, go to school, learn to bike,
sleep at graduations, and get scratches from climbing trees. Watching them walk the isles as grown ups made us realize, our "sunsets" had come and the years had flown.
The time we had were the treasures of our life.
