My Shrinking Grocery Bag 3/1/2009 9:15:25 PM
Five years ago P1,000 ($25) could buy me two bags of groceries, all staple needs complete, with extra for chocolate candy bars and nuts. Not anymore. It's 2009 and I know my money has devalued a lot, and I know it because my cash can only purchase one bag of groceries instead of the usual two, and it is not even full like it used to be. I try to "budget" as much as I can but it just won't stretch, and I try not to scratch my head so much in puzzlement lest I lose so much hair I'll need to buy a hair grower too.
I also notice the goods don't come in big cans anymore but manufacturers have come up with "smaller" packaging, but with the same price, or higher. Some have resorted to "budget sachets" and the items get really smaller in content. The bread buns we used to buy were big enough to hold in our palm, but now the buns have shrunk and looks like a bean, not a bun. Am I just paranoid or is our money shrinking in purchase power (if there's any power left)?
