Knowing Yourself 6/15/2008 10:12:10 PM
It is amazing to note that sometimes we play games with ourselves, we try to childishly put on masks to "cover" our
inner feelings and views for fear of being exposed and being
vulnerable to others. In the process, we become unsure and
undecided on major issues that we need to confront and deal with until it becomes too late.
I had a rather amusing experience with my own "hide and
seek" with myself lately, trying to bury my true feelings with
resentment and dealing with it by isolation and silence.
Ironically, the victim became me. The person I was angry
with just kept his cool and left me to sulk for a while. He knew me more than I knew myself.
Knowing yourself means admitting it is your pride that gets in the way; it is your insecurity that makes you "snap" back to retaliate. Looking inside of you reveals more truth
than you care to admit about yourself, and sometimes it takes courage to adjust to the changes you need to make.
What a wonderful feeling it is to finally "know myself"
and what (who) was inside my heart all along. And yes,
what I wanted and what I have plenty to be thankful for.
Knowing myself helped to make the decision just in time
and it took a humble man to make me do it.
