Another tragic earthquake takes the lives of many (260) in Italy. In the US, although it is not a war zone, 47 died last month from a series of senseless killings and shootings. Now the question always gets thrown back to God. "Why?"
Why did He allow it? Why did He not prevent it? He is God isn't He? Can He not be merciful and save us from volcanoes, tsunamis, earthquakes, wars? Can He not get rid of our cancers, which we caused upon ourselves because of what we did to nature? Why doesn't God act?
Watch a child play with a ball of string, let him play with it for a few minutes and surely, he will come to you to help him untangled the mess HE DID. Even if you warn him to leave the stuff alone, he still stubbornly gets hold of it and when he can no longer "solve" the problem, he comes to you.
We are sometimes like children, God gave us His Word, the Bible as our guide in life. But we still ignore the naked truth that is there, and go about our life messing up with our own balls of string, and then blaming or asking God the "Why" questions after we mess it up. When we don't get immediate answers, we get angry at God. We shrug our shoulders and say, well -God only knows why that drunk shot my child. Well he was drunk! Those who fired shots and killed the innocent people were crazed and without God!
God had nothing to do with it - we do.
We have reduced our perception of God into a Genie, ready to serve our beck and call. We demand answers from Him for the mess we do to our world.
