Not all prayer is heard by God. Particularly unheard are prayers said to idols. God never appointed "assistants" or
receptionists who will relay our prayers to Him. In fact,
He hates it. Jonah, when he was in the belly of the big fish, prayed this prayer:
"When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered You, Lord,
and my prayer rose to You,
to Your holy temple.
Those who cling to worthless idols
forfeit the grace that could be theirs."
(Jonah 2:7-8)
Again in Isaiah 45:20 says: says: "Ignorant are those who carry about idols of wood, who pray to gods that cannot save."
In Jeremiah 4:1 again God says:
"If you put your detestable idols out of my sight and no longer go astray, and if in truthful, just and righteous way you swear, 'As surely as the Lord lives,' then the nations will be blessed by Him and in Him they will glory."
Jeremiah 10:5 says further:
"Like a scarecrow in a melon patch,
their idols cannot speak;
they must be carried
because they cannot walk.
Do not fear them;
they can do no harm,
nor can they do good."
Why waste time and prayer to "things" that are not God?
Why cling to these gods made by men and forfeit the answer to your prayer?
He has sent forth His Word and still the stubborn hearts of men refuse to see, and because they defy His Word about idols, His wrath is aroused. It is a fearful thing to fall under the wrath of an angry God!
