Sitting In the Rain 2/3/2006 9:24:19 PM
Sometimes the worst thing that happens to us turns out to be the best thing that happens to us. I just came in from sitting in the rain. It is not something I do often, but tonight I felt the need to feel the dampness in the air and watch the raindrops bounce off the concrete parking lot.
I know a lot of people don't like it when it rains, but I do because it is like watching God watering his garden so that we can have the food and beauty it nourishes.
Wouldn't it be wonderful if all those we know and love watered us often with showers of kindness and blessing came into our life like rain and nourished us. How much better would this world be if that was the way things worked?
Maybe I wanted to sit silently in the rain because tomorrow is an anniversary for me. It is an anniversary that is more important than Christmas, or my birthday. Nine years ago tomorrow my life changed forever. I laid on a cold stainless steel table in a cold operating room as the surgeon did bilateral masectomies. The next six months of my life were spent being nausious, dizzy and week after chemotherapy treetments. And under the constant threat that they didn't get all the cancer or that it would reoccur. Slowly days flowed into months and months into years and one day I reached my fifth anniversary and was declared cured. It was raining the day of my surgery and on my first anniversary, and now it's 12:44 AM and it's raining again. So to me the blessing of the rain is like the blessing of everyday of the last nine years. I choose to celebrate each rain storm quietly thanking God for it. Just as I celebrate February 4 each year as a milestone of God's generosity.
That day, God guided the hands of the surgeon so that I would live: The result is I no longer fear death, and consider every day I live as a Day God Gave Me and try to live my life accordingly
