Another Day in Paradise 2/27/2006 12:49:31 PM
To most of the people in the United State, I live in Paradise. They think that living where the sun shines more than 300 days a year is one step short of heaven. It would be if the cost of living wasn't so high and the job market so dismal.
Where I live on the South Eastern part, the average 2 bedroom apartment runs between $750 -$1500 a month. And the average pay is between $7 - $10 an hour. We pay a lot for gas which is in constant flux between $2.50 and $3.50 a gallon. A gallon of milk cost more than $3.
Another thing we face is the constant building of condos. There are fewer and fewer available apartments because developers come in, buy up the existing buildings and build high cost condos ranging from $300,00 to $650,000.
Why do I stay here you ask! I stay because this is where my life has been lived for 17 years. This is where I'm comfortable both physically and emotionally. This is where my friends are. I'm willing to put up with 65 days of rain, hurricanes, high prices because here I am at peace with myself.
