Well, I'm back in Florida. It's all about Ike. I've only known three Ikes in my lifetime. President Eisenhouer, Ike Turner (the former husband of Tina) and Hurrican Ike, the scourge of Houston.
As many of you know, in July of 2007 I moved to Houston when my daughter got married to a Houston boy. I promised the kids one year to help them get settled and estgablished. I should have left when the year was up, but I didn't. I hung around for a few more months because I was offered a good job. That was a big mistake. In fact, it was a disaster, (of the natural kind.)
Having lived within 15 minutes of the ocean for 26 years in Florida I made it through 18 hurricanes, including Andrew, Charlie, Wilma, Francis, Jean and Ivan. I was never evacuated, never lost any property and my life was never in jeapordy. With a history like that, a catagory three hurricane making landfall fifty-five miles away didn't really scare me much. I should have been scared. Ike destroyed my belongings, required me to evacuate with left my apartment vunarable to looting, (they even took my surge protector) and cost me my winter wardrobe.
I took Ike's visit and its impact on my life as a sign that I needed to go home to Florida. So here I am! I move into my apartment next week, start work the week after and will have new to me car by the first of February. All in all I'm doing well.
In addition to the positive change in my life, moving back to Florida has an addition bonus, my new grandson, Elijah David (8.5 lbs on December 1) lives in the sunshine state. I met him for the first time yesterday. He's beauriful and healthy and I will get to be part of his life. So I have to thank Ike for forcing me to do what I wanted to do and needed to do.
I'll keep you posted on the baby and me when I have time. Right now I'm getting ready for Tax Return Season, the next four months will be hectic as I try to get my clients a great tax return. When it's over, I'm going on vacation for a week with a friend. We're going Emerald hunting in North Carolina.
