Hi Everyone,
Another year is coming to a close, and nothing and everything has changed. We're still at war in Iraq, still spilling American blood in a war most of us have little faith in winning. Our economy is still on a downward spiril that doesn't seem to have a bottom. Unemployment keeps rising, foreclosures have reached a all time high since the Great Depression, 1 in 2 marriage still fail and 1 in 4 Amaricans are mentally ill (possibly because of the other situations mentioned above.)
But a new year is dawning and with it some changes that are historic. America will watch on January 20th as the first Black American takes the oath of office and moves into the White House. The democrates will rule all both houses of Congress and the White House, and America will watch to see if the above combination can get us away from the abyss of financial ruin and national destruction we're facing.
On a personal front, at the ripe old age of 61 I intend to go back to school, again. This time for a degree in accounting. Why would a poet of my age even consider such a drastic step into such an unallied field of study? Two reasons. First, I need to be able to better understand and control my finances, and I need a job that actually pays. It helps that accounting is something I can do until I'm 115 if I live that long.
So, I want to wish you all a Happy New Year, and to encourage you to stretch yourself into new directions this year. Be adventurous, be forceful and be blessed.
