Rain, rain, stay a day 11/3/2005 10:11:47 AM
The rainy season has officially started here, but I am still worried it might not be enough. When even northern California turns brown in the summer, something is out of balance. I love the sound of frogs singing in the rain and I love the sound it makes on the roof while the fire is burning in the wood stove. I have never really minded when the power blows out during a really good storm, either. It's kind of fun to fire up the oil lamps and hang out in the dark trying to figure out how to cook breakfast on the top of the woodstove. Clue: Cowboy coffee and eggs in an iron skillet come out pretty good. Even though I despise the mold and ick-ness that comes with rain in this part of the world, when I stepped outside this morning and breathed in that fresh, crisp undefinable fragrance - sort of like flowers and earth and green leaves - left behind by a storm, I smiled as I savored it and my day brightened a shade.
