Blog it all, it's SNOWING again 3/14/2008 7:35:59 AM
Ha! Just when you thought it was safe to drive up the hill...shait. We got whacked early this morning. Feeling up to a wilderness adventure - that wilderness being the deeper ditches along the road and/or the wooded glades below the road on the high bits; and the adventure being me sliding into it, boots and all - I took off for work. It was easy going the first three miles - road was not slushy, no accumulation - then I got to downtown Chadron.
Whack. Just, like, twelve feet of slush woo-hooo,...NOT. 20 mph tops and idiots tailgating me. Six miles later, at the Museum of the Fur Trade (go see it - they renovated the building and it's really cool)I am in the parking lot on newly-acquired blueberry (that's my blackberry with blue cover) begging off work because snowflakes were 2-3 inches across, white out, slush pit...wilderness adventure cancelled. Shait.
Turn around - hay truck previously passed now in ditch for real. Eeek - slow down because I would be the one to slide into the poor guy - made it to foot of hill. Parked after skidding around on purpose (I become all brave then, eh?). Ack. Pack lunch, blackberry info, etc. and ass up hill. half way up - heart attack - snow boots are freakin' heavy on the feet, you know? Stop to catch breath (everybody tells me I walk too fast) and am nearly plowed by neighbors. Heard their truck, stepped off road, smiled, red cheeks, no glasses (yes, I wear glasses to see when I'm driving - I'm nearsighted thanks to law school textbook, like, 3-point typeface), glasses in pocket. Phew. About a thousand yards to go straight uphill. Start laughing. Can't move when I laugh - ok, BREATHE - laugh again, have to stop moving again.
Make it up hill. Coffee still hot. Sheriff Mel going on patrol in lovely four-by patrol unit. JEALOUSY? You bet. HE gets to brave it while I have to stay here and...BLOG...crap. Pity he wasn't going my way this morning. Peew. Gotta call Michael - gotta get ready for Mel's 40th tomorrow. Oh yeah, and I am 45 - don't look it either, but who cares if I did. Birthday in November - horse's ass, Sagittarius, whatever that means. Mel's a fish, Pisces.
At point in life where love and deep, lasting friendship more important than either fashion sense or looking younger than I am. I think I will write a story about that one day. Then again thanking ancestral genes for including oily skin as teenager for it hath kept the rose blooming where most have already withered. Even get carded occasionally. Whatever. Whole female image thing is bullshit anyway, you know?
Wear little to no makeup - think it's weird. No belly jeans no butt jeans plain ol' bootcuts. No fancy schmancy clothes - basics - button downs loafers Vans - beach gear surf gear life gear comfortable, movable and freak out when 20-somethings hit on me. "I AM old enough to be your mother," I think. Be flattered I suppose - weird. Just weird.
Love friends love pets and all animals - even when bad dogitis hits and socks become unrecognizable. Flakes up here bigger now...MUCH bigger - sigh - it's gonna be a LOOOOONG day. Yet still much to do. WILL I ever get to rest? Ha, Carl J. Fat Chance.
Saw Lovey yesterday - lovely surprise. Good chat. Gave chocolate - dark - laughed, talked. Good excellent life...as always. Scared shitless about going out on my own still. That's why I got blueberry. High tech special ed now required. Hope I won't become idiot who drives off road while trying to find phone. Hope I can figure out how to dial a freakin phone number. Still can't figure out speaker phone. WHAT have I done???? I am not a cell phone type of person but gotta have it - clients come first. Felt like idiot in cell phone store - NO idea what was going on. Mel was expert - tech man. Go Mel. Thanks for helping me choose -- life can be so weird. Never thought I would have blueberry. Never thought I would sally forth into realm o'private practice. Still scared. Wondering about books. What the HELL am I to do?

Title: "Land of the Lost Mammoths" by Mike Davis.
Book is physically lovely to touch. Hard cover, thick pages, printed in Spain. Shoot, it's an impeccable printing job - haven't seen this quality since I was a kid, yes, in the 1960s. Want to read more of his books. Struck the hidden nerve: science girl.
Made it through analytical geometry and p-chem or physical chemistry - remember the whole "I want to be a veterinarian" thing? Did science project on chromosomal banding techniques in high school - VERY science/math advanced and inclined. Freaks people out - "How could girlie girl be, like, excellent at math and physics?" Cost me dates, but gotta have a brain to converse, you know? More to life than what's for dinner and what to wear tomorrow. More to life but friends appreciate sense of humor which is never off.
"Land of the Lost Mammoths" is excellent story - won't give it away, buy the book.
That said, wish I had become archaeologist exploring...stuff. Cool cool cool profession - but freaky - would love to find roman coin in Britain or old silver coin anywhere. Rockhounding is casual - love rocks. Rocks in my head. This blog has gone on long enough...have a great day! :)
