Fruity Weather Again 2/10/2008 8:26:51 AM
Who said it can't rain apples, oranges, pears, and coconuts? This weather is freaking me out a little again. Last night it was well below zero. That kind of cold hurts. The roving pack o'hounds did not want to sally forth and chase deer or dragons last night - they ran out, did their thing and ran back inside...and they are insulated. Whenever it is that cold, the stars shine out even more brilliantly. Waves of cold make the sky appear to shimmer and the stars stand out against that darkness, aw hell so trite...like diamonds. But they do. So like a dork, there I was,on the deck, ogling the stars like a space cadet as my nose froze. And for some reason, I thought of someone and "Almost Blue" by Elvis Costello.
Elvis Costello, a starry night and...ouch, man that cold hurt. But it was beautiful...then a shooting star. You see a lot of them out here in the middle of nowhere. I saw one orange fireball drop on the way home from work that actually made me pull over. There's some website where you report seeing them, but I just wanted to watch.
When you grow up in big cities, seeing such a clear sky without the orange glow of city lights is precious, no matter how cold it is.
