Remembering George 6/23/2008 9:50:25 PM
My friend, Lily, and I bought George Carlin's album with him on the cover on a stool in front of a chalkboard.I want to say, "Head of the Class" was the title or something. We waited until Lily's Long Island house was empty before listening to the dread and notorious "Seven words you can't say..." And gd it, we rolled. We rolled every time we listened to it - over and over as jr. high kids do - and I still listen to it...and roll. The guy was simply funny as hell.
And his command of the English language was extraordinary. He was funny and I loved his sketches. Who gave a damn if he was controversial - he made people laugh. And laughter, believe me, is something amazing.
Laughter helps your health, your mood, and you won't get those stinky little frown lines so many people crab around about. And who cares about crow's feet - it probably means you laughed a LOT. Your eyes don't crinkle up because you're angry, right? And who the hell squints THAT much? And if ya do, invest in Ray-Bans or something.
This country is so damned obsessed with looks, weight, and...OH NO.....aging - sheesh - Carlin could rip it all up and believe me - he should have been a doctor because when I listened to his work after a bad day at work, hell, I rolled and felt better.
I was a die hard Monty Python, Benny Hill, and "I Love Lucy" fan. Oh yeah - and the Honeymooners, too. Hogan's Heroes also. Laughter and love go hand in hand.
George Carlin, you will be missed...a lot...from your goofy little fan who rolled on the floor laughing and turning red about those seven words...you still can't say on t.v. or radio...bleep bleepity bleep bleep bleep. R.I.P.
