Parking Nazis at Large 5/7/2008 9:44:05 AM
Oh good grief, I thought we were over the days of the Gestapo and Nazis but NOOOOOOOO here in Rapid City, South Dakota (yes, you can't SLANDER a city) in RAPID CITY SOUTH DAKOTA we have a plague worse than prairie dogs...which are cute...but anyway...Yes, folks, parking Nazis are alive and well and patrolling the area in which I work for the errant 45-SECONDS OVER THE TWO HOUR LIMIT ticket mavens. SHEESH I wish they would get a life.
I am so not even kidding. They rabidly mark the tires - the lines even LOOK violent - but they're pink or green - perhaps to quell the rising tide of swear words that begin coming up when you see the BRIGHT YELLOW TICKET on the front windshield.
Oh, and did you know that in the parallel universe that IS ANYWHERE in South Dakota, but especially RAPID CITY, a "block" as in a CITY BLOCK INCLUDES the opposite side of the street, excuse me...DIVIDING one city block from another; SO if you move the vehicle to the other side of the street - silly us who actually know what a "block" is -you get a BONUS TICKET for violating the UNSPOKEN, UNWRITTEN RULE OF THE GODS OF RAPID CITY that not only must you MOVE after two hours from your cherished space BUT it must be to "ANOTHER BLOCK." With that logic, then the entire City of Rapid City is ONE BIG BLOCK. Jeez Louise what is WRONG with these people????
THEN if you don't pay the tickets in time (each $5.00) you get a fine of $5.00 added BUT if your car is from out of state, they don't SEND YOU A NOTICE - due process anyone? AND THEN if you get five tickets EVEN if you pay them on time; or you get those late fines you have no way of knowing about - YOU GET THE BOOT. THE BOOT. And that's $50. FIFTY CLAMS!
My life revolves now around clock checking and running stairs to beat the Nazi clock. I will surely be an olympian after this round of drama. So the attorney I am working with says loudly one day, "I can't stand that woman" as parking Nazi number one is passing us. She, no doubt, heard the slur and that afternoon I got a ticket. Coincidence? I DON"T THINK SO!
Ah, some things in life just really crack me up...and my dear parking Nazis will occupy a bit of space as their summer antics increase in audacity. Same block....WHATEVER! :)
