scrappin it out with the driveway 1/24/2008 7:22:41 AM
Yes, my driveway is, in fact, my nemesis. We got over five inches of hard-pack over the past couple of days - well, hard pack now, it was great powder before our neighbor's plow did it's thing...yes, we live THAT far out in nowhere that the neighbor has a snow plow...the big kind with, like, tank crawler tracks instead of tires. You see, it's the steep, curved AND banked part that causes me to suffer coronary episodes and, theoretically, swear off caffeine...NOT. Ouch, bit of an agro moment there, eh? It has become my mission in life to conquer this driveway and I was prepared last night. I had the stainless shovel and sharp shovel in the back of the car. I walked up the driveway with my ice spikes on and hacked away the compacted snow/ice combo with devastating force until bare driveway showed through. You see there are these two little "holes" where, conveniently, tires come to rest and spin and spin and spin....get the picture...remember the whole "gee, I went backward down the driveway" episode? Yep, I, I IIIIIII created them...me and Mel's lekshi Clay. Because we...always...get...STUCK. My violent nature came through as I hacked away. It's only, like, 15 feet of driveway, but to me, it might as well be Mount Everest when the wind chill is hovering around 25-below and I can't drive the freakin' car UP the driveway because of that FIFTEEN OR SO FEET OF TORMENT. Phew. Vent over. Of course it's supposed to warm up today into the 30s, and I don't mind hiking it then. But the past week it has been heinous cold. Arctic. Seriously. And that hurts. Plus your eyeballs can freeze...don't get me started. Hopefully I can shoot up the hill tonight. We shall see. I am an eternal optimist.
