At last the rains come 3/12/2008 6:18:07 AM
Ahhhhh I LOVE storms. This morning, a huge storm was brewing and the sky was that lovely grey-black just before a cloudburst. As the little drops began pelting the windshield soon followed by bumblebee drops, I could not help but crack a grin. That smell of rain coming and going is so fresh, I can't get enough of it.
Naturally, some dang truck driver had to fly past me doing 70 in a 55 zone and covered my windshield in muck and gave me a healthy dose of diesel fumes - jackass - but that's life. I wondered whether he had smoked crack this morning before he did that because he was carrying flammable haz mat. As this is the first rain, all that oil will come up and slick out the roads. I remember in L.A. after the first rain, there were always mass car collisions on the freeways.
And you will all be pleased to know that driveway o'doom is now mud bog o'misery. Yes, the ice had seeped into the ground and made a six to eight-inch layer of tundra that...melted. Sheesh. I finally poked a hole in lake o'high center, and that was fairly dry, but SOMEONE carved RUTS in the gumbo so I went sliding and slipping sideways down the hill - it was fun actually. I would much rather slippy slide on mud than snow and ice.
Ye olde car is looking like a wreck, but it was fun. Actually, the ride is looking rather heinous these days. Somehow one of my lug nut covers popped off and was lost in the fray of Beaver Walls and I have to replace the rear shocks. There are muddy paw prints inside...ack - ok, so I have to take care of business. For whatever reason, despite my hiatus in L.A. for a decade or so, I never felt compelled to have a pristine ride. Personally, I think a little mud gives a car or truck...charactah. Perhaps I will settle with painting the naked lug nuts purple...hmmm....
I am taking a brief hiatus from my novels because I need a little mind space; a take ten so to speak. The part I can't control, however, is that half way through the night, I will have a great idea or bit of dialogue and I have to write it down. Like I said, don't know where this stuff comes from, but it just sort of happens. It might surprise you to know that all of my stories here - without exception - were written in about ten minutes. Like I said, can't explain it but I have to follow the muse.
I am happily reading one of my friends' novels to find the hidden bits that might not have appealed to an agent who is giving her a second shot. How neat. And it's a good story so...off I go.
