So I hope that I'm not seeing a trend when I look at certain aspects of my life. Whilst in Florida, I was looking ever forward to coming home. In April, I believe it was, my airline went backrupt and I had to head back to travelocity.com to find me another ride back to the Grand Canyon State. Now, also whilst in Florida, a freelance writer contacted me and was interested in writing an article featuring me in a Chandler magazine. After enthusiastically agreeing to the idea and gleefully giving an over-the-phone interview, I heard nothing for about three months, despite my inquiries. Finally, just today I received word from the writer that for any news on the article I would have to contact the editor. No problem. Well, after getting a message saying that my email was undeliverable, and after calling the magazine and finding that the number had been disconnected, I began to suspect that something had gone bust. Finally I was able to contact a sales associate for the magazine, and then I learned the news that I'd suspected, that the magazine's investor had pulled out and the staff had moved on. Now I find myself in exactly the same situation as before, only now it's a different magazine that I'm waiting on to here from.
In other news, I turn twenty-one tomorrow. Last year at this time I was enrolled in college, pursuing my writing interests. I was working at Chick-fil-A, and Branchwater's release was imminent. I attended open poetry readings at Changing Hands in Tempe off and on, and I had also been taking part in the occasional workshop that applied to my interests. And this year?
I'm still enrolled in college, and still pursuing my writing interests. I work at the bookstore on campus, am well liked there, and already it appears that I'll be able to take my experience working there and put it to good use elsewhere in the industry. Stopping by Changing Hands has slipped off of my usual to-do list, and I know it's a shame, but when the establishment is in Tempe and one lives in Chandler... yeah.
And for right now, there is no book release imminent, although that statement should change in the spring (knock on wood). I'll be returning to the Creative Writing Club this semester to help out and participate in any way I can, and I continue to critique the work of several friends. My own work marches steadily (and healthily on) while I continue my modest attempts at local publicity. To everyone who has helped me get where I am today, thank you. I plan on making the most of all your efforts.
