The Art of Connecting is Alive and Well 11/16/2009 3:04:26 PM
We may be busier than ever, but I believe the desire to connect with each other is still strong. Now more than ever, thanks to computers and the world wide web, with minimal research it's easy to connect with friends from childhood, high school and college or even an old flame. It's also possible to make new friends, who we may never meet face to face, but with whom we share similar interests, hobbies, or simply like to "chat".
Obviously I have a Blog, but call me an anomaly - so far I do not "Face Book" or Text - but I certainly see their value and appeal. I guess I haven't gotten started because I know it would take time away from writing and other interests and could become quite a distraction if I let it.
From Cave Man days, people have connected one way or another; and now with the hours spent in front of our computers, with our cell phones in hand, and easy access to information, in just a few clicks we can connect!
I suspect this relatively new form of mechanized communication has taken away from the appeal of old fashioned reunions, phone calls, and we sure don't write letters like we used to, do we? In our world of high tech this and that, I know in many ways we are better off, but I still like the traditional way of communicating and this includes email. Email is an easy and instant way to say "Hello" or to send a message to friends and co-workers.
As we approach the holiday season, take a few minutes and think about how you will connect with family and friends this year. There are so many choices today and all of them have their place. So stay alive and well and keep connecting.
