If I was an artist, what color would I paint love? I’ve been thinking a lot about love lately; and not only love, but loss and life’s milestones. What color would I choose if I could paint "Love"? Red - for roses and passion? Silver – for 25 years of dedication? Gold – for the golden years? Or would I pick from a palette of pastel colors to signify the subtle elements of love? The “day to day” love that might not be heralded as noteworthy of a Hallmark card.
We’ve seen just about every aspect of love this spring. Our niece was married on May 1st and just six days later my beloved mother-in-law died unexpectedly after complications from emergency surgery. Two days later, on Mother's Day, my great-nephew came into the world three weeks early following an emergency C-section. He is tiny, but healthy, and clearly a fighter. One week after our precious nephew was born, our daughter received her Bachelors’ Degree, magna cum-laude. Her dedication and hard work is clearly a measure of her love of higher education, as well as a symbol of the love and support of her husband and our entire family.
In June my husband and I celebrated a milestone, our 40th wedding anniversary, and our children surprised us with a dinner and reception at a restaurant on the Columbia River. One week later my husband and I vacationed in Portland and were able to celebrate Father’s Day with my brother, the proud grandpa, and his son, who is the new papa of baby James.
So I’ll have to settle for creating a word picture and the reader can insert his or her own color for Love. Enjoy and embrace Love in all its forms.
