Springtime always reminds me of the chance for a new beginning . . . Spring is nature’s way of telling us, “Life goes on,” and nothing illustrates this more clearly to me than rolling hills of pastureland spotted with colts, calves, and lambs as they run freely after one other or simply jump for joy; happy to be alive. I saw this miracle of life played out over and over as we drove home from Central Oregon earlier this week.
I like to think on these marvelous scenes whenever I feel a little down; whether it’s because of a rainy day, or because my writing is stalled, or because everyone else is busy when I have a free afternoon. Children have much in common with our four-footed friends. They see the good in just about everything and get excited about the little things: an ice cream cone, a hot dog lunch, or the chance to hop on their bikes and ride around the neighborhood without a care in the world. I remember those days of my youth and am grateful that I can take a walk along the Columbia River, or just open the front door and take a deep breath to inhale the fragrance of spring, or to hear the songs of the robin and quail as they celebrate God’s beautiful world.
So here’s to New Life, Springtime, and the time of New Beginnings.
