Book Signings and More 5/15/2011 1:43:41 PM
My first book has just been published and I find that the hard work is still to come. As a writer and a recently published author, I thought the hard work was in the writing, and it was. Yes, I spent several years on this project, and yes, finishing and publishing my memoir, Through the Tunnel of Love, a Mother's and Daughter's Journey with Anorexia provided a sense of accomplishment and satisfaction far beyond my expectations.
But now I have to learn a whole new skill set and forge ahead into the uncharted territory of marketing, self-promotion and public speaking. With two book signings under my belt, I have already learned a lot. Every day I look for marketing and one-on-one promotional ideas: such as having at least one copy of the book on my person in order to present it at the perfect opportunity, and overcoming my naturally introverted personality to introduce myself to bookstores, support groups, and other appropriate venues. I am guaranteed to have an exciting and unpredictable ride over the next weeks and months - maybe longer!
And as a bonus, I realize how lucky I am to have the continued support of family, friends and, of course, my fellow writers. So here I go as I jump in with both feet - eyes wide open - to learn, grow and enjoy every minute of my new adventure. But I can't rest because I am also outlining and working on my next writing project. So, Write On!
