Amazing Creation by J-me (Part 11) 1/23/2009 7:01:03 AM
And God Rested.
Genesis 2:1-3 • Genesis 2:1-3, "Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work. And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made."
The Bible states that on the 7th day God rested from all his works. Did the Lord rest because he was weary? Absolutely not!
• Isaiah 40:28, "Hast thou not known? hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the LORD, the Creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? there is no searching of his understanding."
• Psalm 121:2-4, "My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth. He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber. Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep."
It is obvious that our Lord neither gets weary or sleeps. Why take a day of rest? Because he wanted to take pleasure in his creation.
• Revelation 4:11, "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."
Much as a painter would enjoy his artwork, so also the creator of all creativity enjoyed his creation in its pristine condition.
The sabbath was not created as a day of drudgery, but as a day of enjoyment and celebration. When we approach our Lord Jesus Christ it should be with that same joy and celebration.
