Is Jesus the Author of the Scriptures? Have you ever had a Bible verse that just eluded you? That you just didn't understand why it was in the Bible. I had such a verse. The verses I am talking about are:
Matthew 26:10-13, "When Jesus understood it, he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? For she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. Verily I say unto you, wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her."
On the surface I knew that Jesus was defending the woman's actions, but I felt that there was something deeper about the verse. Something that I needed to know.
I said a short prayer, "Father, if there's something more about this verse I need to know please show me. In Jesus name. Amen"
I forgot about the verse until several days later. In my daily reading I read Mark 13:10 where Jesus says, "And the gospel must first be published among all nations."
The answer to my question several days earlier became abundantly clear. What do the verses in Matthew 26:10-13, and Mark 13:10 have in common?
Both verses are prophesies by Jesus. Matthew 26:10-13 clearly demonstrates that Jesus already knew what was going to be put in the Bible.
Mark 13:10 demonstrates that Jesus already knew that the gospel would be published throughout the world.
He is clearly showing that what is put in the Bible is not put there by accident. He already knew! Why did he know? Because he is the author.
Why does Jesus have the authority to author the scriptures?
Because he is the "Word of God."
John 1:1-5 states, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not."
John 1:14 continues, "And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father), full of grace and truth."
Finally, John 1:16-18 states, "And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace. For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ. No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him."
The scriptures makes it clear that not only is the Bible God's word, but Jesus Christ, (the Word who became flesh), is the author of the Bible.
