Genesis 4:25-26 • Genesis 4:25-26, "And Adam knew his wife again; and she bare a son, and called his name Seth: For God, said she, hath appointed me another seed instead of Abel whom Cain slew. And to Seth, to him also there was born a son; and he called his name Enos: then began men to call upon the name of the Lord."
These two verses demonstrate the amazing love of God toward man. In the face of man rejecting God - God still makes provision for man's salvation.
It is obvious that Eve repented and relied on the mercy of the Lord by recognizing that God had given her another seed. Of this seed came the linage of Noah, Israel, and ultimately of Jesus, the saviour of the world.
It is in these verses that we learn that men who call upon the name of the Lord in all generations receive salvation.
Genesis 4:26, "...then men began to call upon the name of the Lord."
Romans 10:13, "For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved."
Those in all generations who have sought the Lord have received salvation. But they could not be perfected without the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
• Hebrews 11:13, "These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth."
• Hebrews 11:39-40, "And these all, having obtained a good report through faith, received not the promise: God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect."
The Lord Jesus, whose mercy is beyond understanding, has provided salvation for those who have sought him with all their heart throughout all generations.
May we be encouraged to share Jesus with all we meet that they might be saved and Jesus be glorified.
