Genesis 2:15-17

• Genesis 2:15-17, "And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the Lord God commanded the man saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die."

It was before the woman was created that the Lord God gave Adam the commandment not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. God did not expect great feats out of Adam, but he did expect simple obedience, just as he expects obedience from his servants today.

• Romans 1:5, "By whom we have received grace and apostleship, for obedience to the faith among all nations, for his name:"

• Romans 16:26, "But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:"

• II Corinthians 10:5, "Casting down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;"

The Lord God made obedience to Adam incredibly easy. To disobey God would take a deliberate willful act. God made obedience easier than disobedience.

If only we would learn to be obedient. For then we would have the peace and joy in Christ for which we crave.
