Genesis 3:11-14 • Genesis 3:11-14, "And he said, Who told thee that thou wast naked? Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat? And the man said, The woman whom thou gavest to be with me, she gave me of the tree, and I did eat. And the Lord God said unto the woman, What is this that thou hast done? and the woman said, The serpent beguiled me, and I did eat. And the Lord God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shat thou eat all the days of thy life."
When the Lord God asked Adam, "Hast thou eaten of the tree, whereof I commanded thee that thou shouldest not eat?" (verse 11) Adam does not repent. Instead he blames God and the woman. "the woman whom thou gavest to be with me"
When the Lord God asked Eve, "What is this that thou hast done? (verse 13) The woman responds by blaming the serpent. No one repented. Instead Adam covered his sin.
• Job 31:33, "If I covered my transgressions as Adam, by hiding mine iniquity in my bosom:"
Without repentance there is no forgiveness of sins.
Luke 13:3, "I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish."
This is the biggest problem with mankind. Man would rather blame everyone else including God for his problems than himself. He would rather keep his stubborn pride rather than humble himself and seek forgiveness that only comes through Christ.
• Proverbs 16:8, "Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall."
It is also important to note that only Adam and Eve were given the opportunity to speak and repent. The serpent was cursed without any opportunity.
It is only given to mankind to have repentance and salvation. Angels (including the serpent, Satan), have no chance to repent.
• Jude 1:6, "And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day."
May we all have wisdom to humble ourselves and seek forgiveness and salvation that comes only through Christ.
