Genesis 4:9-12 • Genesis 4:9-12, "And the Lord said unto Cain, Where is Abel thy brother? And he said, I know not: Am I my brother's keeper? And he said, What hast thou done? the voice of thy brother's blood crieth unto me from the ground. And now art thou cursed from the earth, which hath opened her mouth to receive thy brother's blood from thy hand; When thou tillest the ground, it shall not henceforth yield unto thee her strength, a fugitive and a vagabond shalt thou be in the earth."
What is so terrible about these verses is that the Lord gave Cain a chance to repent of his sin, but Cain in anger replies, "Am I my brother's keeper?"
God who is of tender mercy and forgiveness would have forgiven Cain if he had confessed his sin and repented.
• I John 1:8-10, "If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us."
Cain tried to hide his sin from God. Nothing can be hid from God. This is the problem with mankind from the beginning. Adam hid in the garden. Cain asked, "Am I my brother's keeper?" Today every excuse is given, but repentance is not sought. Today, men even say there is no God to hide their sin.
Be assured of this one thing. Sin will find you out.
If a person does not repent and accept the Lord Jesus, he is calling God a liar, and God's wrath rests on him.
If a person repents and calls on the name of the Lord, Jesus, God is merciful and kind and will forgive sin.
These are the choices set before man. Please repent and call on the name of the Lord.
