The Christian walk is not always an easy path. The walk of faith for a Christian is not always an easy path to take. There seem to many trials and pitfalls in the way. This is true. We as Christians must realize that we are in the midst of a raging war. This war is being waged on two fronts and we face a formidable enemy. This enemy is that old serpent, Satan, the devil, (Revelation 20:2), a murderer from the beginning and the father of lies (John 8:44).
The devil has four weapons that he uses to attack Christians. These four weapons are shown in Genesis 3:4-6.
* Genesis 3:4-6, "And the serpent said unto the woman, Ye shall not surely die: For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods, knowing good and evil. And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat."
What are the four weapons shown in this passage?
The first weapon used was the lie, "Ye shall not surely die:", (Genesis 3:4). Satan is a liar and he will use every possible lie to convince a Christian to believe anything but God's word!
The second weapon is lust of the flesh, "the woman saw that the tree was good for food," Genesis 3:6a.
The third weapon is lust of the eyes, "and that it was pleasant to the eyes," Genesis 3:6b.
The fourth weapon is pride, "and a tree to be desired to make one wise," Genesis 3:6c.
* I John 5:16, "For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world."
When a Christian listens to Satan's lies and gives into temptation of lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, or pride sin gains a foothold in his life and causes damage to his fellowship with God and his witness to men.
Who can stand against such a powerful foe?
Praise be to God who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ! Just as it was prophesied that we would be delivered out of the hand of our enemies to serve Jesus withour fear (Luke 1:74). Thus we should fear only the Lord our God, Jesus Christ!
Anyone who teaches Christians to fear anyone or anything but our Lord Jesus Christ is not teaching the truth.
* Isaiah 35:3-4, "Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. Say unto them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you."
Jesus Christ during his earthly ministry admonishes us to Fear Not. (Matthew 10:28, Luke 8:50, Luke 12:7, 32, and John 12:15).
But how does a Christian learn not to fear?
II Corinthians 10:4-5, "(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds;) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ."
When Christians begin reading, meditating, and obeying the word of God, in spite of all outside appearances or influences that true freedom from fear is accomplished.
* John 8:31-32, "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."
