I met an extraordinary man today
4/7/2005 2:34:09 PM

Actually, I met him the other day, I just spoke with him today.

A homeless man, who came to work at the same menial day job I'm doing to make a little extra cash (I teach nights, am editing several people's books for $$$ and my own writings are providing some cash flow...but for the last few weeks I've been working insane hours as a marketeer for a local tax service...to help pay off the massive debts I accrued through two divorces).

His name is Mark. He's earnest, strong and honorable. And there is something about him that tells me I am supposed to hear what he has to say, that "traveller from an antique land" vibe,

I engaged him in conversation today and found out he's been in Morgantown since he attended graduate school here at WVU. He has his MSW, his Masters in Social Work. My ex would've killed puppies with her bare hands to earn her MSW, still dreams of it...This guy has it and doesn't even use it. Somewhere along the line, through personal trial, he lost his path. He needs to get reoriented.

He will, one day. He's regaining his balance in life. Don't know the full story, but you can tell he's licking the very wounds he earned falling through the cracks and thinking about what to do next round. There's that look in his eyes like he's lacing up the gloves.

Sometimes God holds up mirrors. Sometimes God doesn't have to.

Okay, I get the message...show me the path.
