Wandered down to the 'Bear after work...hit the dinner crowd...like hell I am going to stand in line out to the street to get an iced tea when there is no seating available. I'll hang there tomorrow...
went to the coffe bar at the BAM...when I pulled up I noticed all the flyers about my reading there on the 22nd, plastered all over the place. I resisted the temptation to make some comment (when not on stage I am just diffferent enough in my demeanor and grooming to pass unless you know me)...I wanted to point at the flyer by the register and go "I think I know him..."
I ordered a jasmine tea, then noticed they had iced tea. switched my order.
The young lovely behind the counter asked if I wanted 16 ounce or 20 ounce...I told her the twenty ounce.
She scooped ice into the cup, then another server walked up and said "We're out of iced tea". By then I had a hankering for a cold beverage.
I had a Diet Coke...yes, I know the aspartame will cause cancer and brain rot, resulting in my voting Republican in 2008, but I was thirsty.
Read this week's issue of New Scientist while I took in the ambience. Nice piece on evolutionary adaptation. I developed a whole new appreciation for parasites (no ex-wife jokes, please).
Tired. Am caffeine loading so I can stay up to normal hours, then collapse and sleep hard. Long day tomorrow.
I think I'll go out tomorrow. but first swing by the Bear and see what ripples my latest writings have wrought. I'm supposed to get a call from the Times West Virginian next week for an interview before the tour.
Typical...I'm doing one read in Fairmont, they call for an interview...I'm doing two reads in Morgantown...atomic crickets (speaking of atomic crickets, I'm worried about NP's silence...just don't know how to pierce the veil without creating problems for her...I don't have a valve in her sphere like I do in so many other people's lives (even some who are unaware) I can't give up playing guardian angel just because someone gets stupid.)
That's the whole point of being an angel. Even one with wings as oft leathery as feathery.
It gets ridiculous, I know. But even those who have lied to and about me are never fully deserted. The very virtue that some have so bitterly loathed in me still stands to their aid. I know no other way to live my life.
