What was he world like BEFORE Jesus? 6/17/2007 4:55:06 PM
When you think of life in the time of the man known as Jesus Christ, do you think it of running water? Do you think about what parts of the world were populated?Here are some things hat may surprise you:
PRIOR TO THE BIRTH OF JESUS
The Seven wonders of the world had already been constructd:
1. Egyptain Pyramids circa 220-1100 BC
2. Babylonian hanging gardens cca 600 BC
3. Temple of Dna at Ephesus circa 544 BC
4. Statue of Jupiter Olympus irca 433 BC
5. Mausoleum circa 350 BC
6. The Colossus at Rome circa 290 BC
7. Pharos Lighthouse of Alexandria circa 280 BC
Can you imagine how advanced the world must have alredy been for all that to have already been built?
Rome was funded in 753 BC
The Great Wall of China was built circa 263-236 BC
The first Oylympiad was July 1 776 BC....wonder if they had winter olympics,too.
The Christian Era (C.E.) began in the 30th year of the reign of Augutus Caesar. He reignedfor 44 years and died in the year 14 AD (or 4714 of the Julian Calendar)
Christianity REPLACED paganism as the official religion of the Holy Roman Empire in the 4th century AD...THAT IS 400 YEARS AFTER THE DEATH OF JESUS. It was established by Constantine, the firt Holy Roman Emperor. He learned about jesus from his mother Helen who had actually followed some of the work by the descendants of the apostles and Jesus. He sent her to find out all about the man and she came back bearing what she said was a piece of the true cross. She had it put into his armor and thought he could not be harmed as long as it was there. Constantine decided the best way to rally his empire around him was to form an official religion and so, deciding to replace paganism, he chose Christianity. He said he had dreamed that he led great armies to victory with a cross on his staff. He also "borrowed" pagan dates and rites into this new "religion." He chose Dec. 25 as the date of Jesus death because it was already a date of celebration Integration of the pagan into Christianity was suppsed to make the new more easily tolerated. Constantine, however, DID NOT BECOME A CHRISTIAN UNNTIL HIS DEATHBED. Makes you wonder, doesn't it?
